Netherlands student visa & Orientation Year

Non-EU students need an MVV entry visa and a residence permit. The Orientation Year visa gives graduates 12 months to find employment in the Netherlands after graduation.

Student Visa Process (MVV)
  • Your Dutch university applies for your MVV entry visa on your behalf (sponsorship system)
  • Required documents: acceptance letter, proof of funds (€900+/month), health insurance
  • Collect your MVV sticker at the Dutch Embassy or consulate
  • Convert MVV to a residence permit (IND) within 3 days of arriving in the Netherlands
  • Processing time: 4–8 weeks; IELTS 6.0+ required for most English programs
Work Rights & Orientation Year
  • Work up to 16 hours/week during term; full-time in June, July, and August
  • No separate work permit needed — covered by student residence permit
  • Orientation Year visa (Zoekjaar): 1 year post-graduation to find a job
